Partnership Projects  in Aboud

1- Rehabilitation of the parish saloon  (September 2001)

By a grant of 2000 $ from the HCEF   and a another grant from Jerusalem Caritas we have rehabilitated the saloon of the Latin Convent in Aboud.  It was a job creation  done to help parishioners to find job and to gain their daily bread with dignity, and at the same time we did a grate job in the Convent.

The work was a restoration of a little hall in our convent used to be a salon and meeting room for the parish. By coincidence, and during the restoration, we discovered mosaic under the floor of this room, so for this reason the work was interrupted several times and it takes a lot of time.

For this we would like to thank all who gave the money with love and generosity. This act of charity helped us a lot, and permitted to some of our parishioners to work and to gain money, and which also helped us to discover this mosaic and to conserve it. This discovering of the mosaic, which return to the 7 th century, is important as it is the money and the work, because its helps us to remember our Christian roots and our history, and this encourage our people to love this Holy Land and to remain here faithful guardians.

2- Rehabilitation and retain of Aboud's church wall (June 2002)

The wall is about 305 mm long around the church, the school and the gardens of the Latin Convent of Aboud. It's about 90  years old (since 1910) in a very bad condition and which some parts are demolished. So as the political and ecumenical situation in Palestine is in a very bad condition, and many young men in Aboud as will as in the other villages and cities of Palestine are without works, frustrated and without any hope on the future, we thought that if they can work to create opportunities to gain there daily bread with dignity. The retain and rehabilitation of the church wall is a very good opportunity and could give work for many workers and for several days.

So we got from Duane & Lorie Burchick  a generous amount of $ 1000   and another $ 3000 from the HCEF for these issue, with these money and other contribution from the Pontifical Mission for Palestine in Jerusalem we did a grate job. 53 workers fore 23 days had the chance to work and to gain money. In the same time we could retain in a very good condition the compound of the church and of the school.
